Mailday 1 – Alpha Enchantresses

Do you know this guy?

Of course you do. It is Santa. Today in the form of Old School player and trader extraordinaire, Christian Arent.

The other day I conducted a trade with him, and today he took to the road to exchange the cards. What a guy!

So what cards are we talking about, you ask. I will tell you. No! I will show you. Behold the glory:

This is complete and utter craziness. Who in their right mind would ever shell out the dough to pay for these cards?! Well, I would, it seems. Consider my Christmas present for myself done. But they are only borderline playable, they will probably sit in my binder for years, I will probably play them and regret doing so. But they are SO beautiful.

I have been wanting the Enchantresses in beta for some time – ever since I saw a really cool Enchantress deck in action on the Jutland Ridge (read all about it here). But I thought to myself, that they were too expensive, and that I should probably prioritize other cards before them.

Then Christian simply made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. And as we all know, the allure of Alpha cards are a force to be reckoned with! The day after we had struck the deal, Christian kindly asked me, if I was sure I wanted to go through with it. I guess he knows this is somewhat crazy. My answer was easy and clear: Yes!

Should I have done it? Probably not. I could have bought a playset of Beta Swords to Plowshares. I could have upgraded some more Revised duals to Unlimited ones. I could have bought myself some Beta Ankh of Mishra or Beta Winter Orb. I could have done a lot of things with the money I spend on these four fine ladies.

Will I ever regret that I bought them anyway? Most certainly not!

So there you have it, now I only need another 36 green Alpha cards to be able to play Alpha40 with the big boys.

Let’s see if that ever happens!

  1. Hi Emil
Congrats with the lovely ladies squad 🧝🏼‍♂️🧝🏼‍♂️🧝🏼‍♂️🧝🏼‍♂️
“Enchantress” is my favorite “Pet deck” and I’ve had quite a bit of fun with G/W – G/B and G/W/U builds. When it works it really works. Once drew 6 cards on three of them after also throwing down a Force of Nature. Epic.
Saw Gandalf’s deck spotlight of Christian’s Robo Enchantress build the other day, and I was blown away. Wow she packs quite a punch, when in good company 🌟😍🧝🏼‍♂️
I’ve recently bought my first Beta Enchantress and are definitely going to finish the playset and kick some unserious ass with those bad girls.
I totally understand and endorse your purchase. So if the wifey complains just send her my way 😹🙈 OS is very much about getting those pieces of cardboard that you love, what to brew with and will look at and cherish forever. I look forward to a LEA vs. LEB Enchantress Showdown some day.
    Cheers 🧙🏽‍♂️

Thanks. I know you have been making Magic with the fine ladies for some time now!
Actually, I think I have only played with the card one or two times, but that will definitely change now.

I plan to write a five-part series next year, called MEGA – Make Enchantress Great Again – with some introduction and some different decklists. I will most certainly need input from players who know the card better than I do.

  2. […] Yes, of course I also bought some Old School cards. Not least the 4 Wild Growths from Alpha to complement my four ladies. […]

  4. […] pass as quite the coincidence. I made a rash move and stroke quite a bargain back in November 2020. I bought a playset of Alpha Verduran Enchantress. Now, that may seem a very crazy thing to do, for a guy who can barely assemble a Swedish legal […]
